What our Students Say

Sailing Vessel Rangatira

From the Editor of Playday Paper (July 2018)

Do you ever pass Lake Arthur and look over to see all the sail boats gliding peacefully on the lake?  Has it ever piqued your interest? I have driven over the Rt 422 & 528 bridges for over 20 years. On most summer days there are sailboats out picking up the wind and whisking across the lake but I never thought about what went into actually sailing until I met Captain Mike. He sent me some info and a story (we published a couple editions ago) then he invited me to take his First Sail Experience. Without reservation, I went online and booked a Sunday spot at 1 pm. Yes, I was a little nervous. I had no idea what getting on a sailboat and actually learning the basics would entail but I was excited. Captain Mike was just awesome and so was his wonderful sailboat. The way the boat is powered by the wind is really an incredible feeling. I want my readers to know that this was a terrific experience. This is something you can do alone or with a couple people. Mike made it feel safe and was very informative. He answered every question and shared his wealth of sailing knowledge (and some stories) with me...at least all that I could take in on one adventure! I highly recommend this to anyone who has a love of nature, the water, or is considering sailing in the future. It is an unforgettable first experience to a sport you may not have realized you can learn and enjoy so close to home!

We went  out to Moraine State Park on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for a  sailing lesson with Capt. Mike and could not have asked for a better  experience! Mike started off by showing us  the different parts of his boat and giving us some safety lessons. Then  we slowly went out on the lake while he taught us terms which we had  never heard before and some of the basics of sailing. Before we knew it  we were hoisting up the mainsail and the jib  and off we went! Capt. Mike was extremely informative during the whole  trip. There’s no way we even came close to learning everything about  sailing in our 2 hour lesson so we absolutely plan on doing a 6 hour  lesson the next chance we get. Overall great experience  that we would highly recommend!

I’ve taken a few sailing lessons with Captain Mike and I highly recommend him as a very knowledgeable and professional instructor. He works extremely hard to make sure his students learn as much as possible while keeping the experience fun. He is the perfect instructor for someone who has never sailed before or for someone who has sailed and wants to improve their skills.

What a great experience! The First Sail Experience was a birthday gift from my hubby. We definitely want to get our own sailboat. Can't wait!

From Liz (June 2018)

Sailing on Rangatira was awesome! Took 101, had fun and learned to sail. Can't beat the price either! Thanks Capt Mike!
